Anyone been playing with BASIC Engine lately?

Willard I have not idea about the Windows version because I’m a Mac user, but I’m inclined to think there’s no substantial difference with the other versions. I’m going to buy a Raspberry 500 to make a new old-school all-in-one BASIC machine, thanks to the RPi version @uli released recently. I’m not expecting any more progress on the project, at least soon, but what we have is good enough for me, so I can still play with it and have fun. 😊

Dmian In a converssation with some folks last night, I was telling them about BASIC Engine and I am using it on a Windows XP computer. I told them it could also be used on Mac computers. Since I am using an older version of Windows, they ask how far back on Macs could it be used? (Just the newest Macs or Macs with Intel and PowerPC CPUs?) Not being a Mac user, I don't know what limits BASIC Engine running on them, the CPU or the version of Mac software or both. I have access to a PowerPC with Mac Tiger software on it, but I don't want to try it if it won't work on that old of a Mac system.

Thanks for any advice you can provide me.

Currently the build is for AMD64 Macs, and it can also run on ARM-based machines. There is no PPC build, but it may just work if compiled for it. (ATM there are no big-endian platforms, so that may trigger thus far unknown bugs.)
I don't think I really have the time right now to tackle that, though.

Yes, the problem with Macs is that the architecture was changed many times. First the 68k line, then the PPC, then Intel and now Apple Silicon. It's impossible to do something that works on all of them (nobody ever tries that, I think).

I'm actually waiting for the availability of the RPi 500 in Spanish (probably in April) to get one and have an all-in-one computer with a modern BASIC interpreter. It's not a cheap platform (around €100) as an Orange Pi, but having an all-in-one modern BASIC computer is basically a dream come true for me. 😁
