Orange Pi price hike

While my new OPi boards are still held hostage by customs, I have checked AE again, and the prices have doubled! Three weeks ago I have ordered a One and a PC for 8 and 12 Euros, respectively, (including a bundle discount of about 2 Euros each, plus 8 Euros shipping by mail), and now the One is 17 Euros and the PC is 21 (and there is no bundle discount available any more). I wonder if the global chip shortage has reached low-end SoCs now...

The OPi Lite was €22.31 when I bought it (March 11th), and it's now €22.59. If there was a hike in price, it was probably before that... For what I can see, the boards were a lot cheaper before. I have no idea what happened, but your theory sounds logical.

Btw, I was checking the CherryPi PC V7 (http://www.chinalctech.com/cpzx/CherryPi_series/2020/1203/496.html), an Orange Pi PC clone. They are pretty similar, with the Cherry Pi being closer to the Raspberry Pi 2 in shape. Another difference is it gets its power from a USB-C connector, instead of the barrel jack on the OPi.

It was being sold on AE (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001591589322.html?spm=a2g0s.8937460.0.0.41ee2e0ecobDU5) but it was quickly retired without explanation. I was not able to get one, but I'll keep an eye on it, in case they are being offered again.
